Holly Hamilton has always been perturbed by the way her older sister, Ellen, seems to get everything. It's especially tough living in the shadow of your sister's cape when she's a super heroine named Suprema!
With one super-parent and one not, it was inevitable that the girls would turn out different. Unfortunately for Holly, she takes after her earthling mother. Ellen has taken over their retired father’s role as Century City's reigning superhero, balancing school and super-duties with remarkable ease while it’s a struggle for Holly to get through her English class without mishap, not to mention those Cheer Squad tryouts!
The girls learn their father’s old nemeses, Anti-Hero, has escaped from his Space Prison, and they’re concerned – Anti-Hero nullified their father’s powers once – what else does he have in store for him and Suprema? When another teen superhero extraordinaire appears on the scene, they’re even more puzzled. Who is Magna Boy? Is he friend or foe? And does he have a connection to Anti-Hero? The appearance of two new guys at school, teen heartthrob Tad Barker and nerd Ed McGee, set Holly and her sister to wondering—and arguing—could one of them be the new super kid on the block? If so, which one?
Working with her friend Mona and her scientist uncle, Holly finally uncovers Anti-Hero’s dastardly plot – he intends to capture Suprema and Magna Boy and siphon their powers for himself! Before she can warn her sibling, however, Anti-Hero strikes and captures the superheroes. Now it’s up to Holly to use her ingenuity and prove to everyone, but most of all herself, that you don’t’ have to be a superhero for good to win out over evil…or to nab a super-boyfriend, either!

My Superhero Sister Superhero Diaries eBook Toni Lotempio Jeffrey Taormina Reviews
It is always difficult to be in the shadow of your elder sister, especially for Holly Hamilton. Holly's sister Ellen is everything Holly wants to be- popular, a cheerleader, smart and the new super heroine of the town, Suprema. Unfortunately for Holly, who takes after her earthling mother, this means that there is not even a speck of super power in her. Jealous of her sister's popularity, she tries hard to make a place for herself. It becomes harder not to be jealous of her sister's perfection when they both develop a crush on the new guy in school. Things get complicated as rumours reach them that Anti-Hero - their father's nemesis because of whom he lost his powers - has escaped from the prison. Now it is up to Suprema to take on the super-villain along with the mysterious new super-hero, Magna-boy. With the new threat at large Holly has decided to make her worth known by helping to capture Anti-Hero.
I was never into superhero comic books. Yet, strangely I was addicted to the superhero cartoons. My Superhero Sister is like reading a superhero comic book albeit without that many graphics. It had everything that a superhero book demands - a super-villain with a somewhat tragic history, superheroes with one small weakness that can destroy them and of course, lots of action. This book definitely fits into the `can't let go till the end' category. I was almost reliving my days of watching those cartoons. Also, this book is not without some important lessons of life. It teaches us that no matter how big or small, we all are important in our own way.
As for the characters, they come to life with the author's vibrant description. In a book dealing with superheroes, it may seem a bit difficult to actually relate to the characters; but Toni LoTempio is successful in connecting her superhero characters to her mere mortal readers. It is Holly's character to whom I could relate the most. Unlike her sister, Ellen, who is the "epitome of perfection", Holly is awkward and quirky. As a younger sister myself, maybe I am a bit biased towards her character. Holly won my heart from the very first time her character is introduced. Her hidden spunk that shows itself when it is most required makes her a character who is difficult not to like. Also, not to forget her weird passion of collecting the strangest of insects and her overall geekiness makes me love her all the more. Even Anti-Hero is perfect in his role of super-villain. The only complaint I have from him is his name - `Anti-Hero' did not work for me at all. In a book that is so filled with imagination, I would have expected the super-villain to have a more creative name. Other than that, Anti-hero is the perfect cold-hearted and evil super-villain.
`My Superhero Sister'- the title itself seems to suggest what the story can be about. However, this book goes beyond telling a simple story about superheroes. Woven with action and drama, it is also a story of finding out your true worth and going for the things you really want. My Superhero sister is an electrifying read that can be enjoyed by all teens, especially the younger ones.
Overall
A fast-paced and action packed superhero story woven with a message in it.
Recommended?
Yes. To all young adults who love to read superhero comics because this book will not disappoint you.
In the tradition of comic book heroes everywhere, Toni Lotempio has put together a fun and energetic young adult fiction dealing being an outcast in a family of superheroes. Holly Hamilton is a normal young teen and takes after her mother. Now many would not find this to be an issue, but Holly does not live in a normal family. Her father is Invincible Man, an incredible Super Hero. Again, this is kind of cool unless of course your sister takes after that side of the house. In her case, Ellen was the recipient of the super power genetics. Her super name is Suprema. Holly's friend Mona thinks she is jealous of her sister, but Holly knows that is just ridiculous. I just does not seem fair that she does not have even a bit of superpower herself.
In school, she also has to compete with her sister who is also super cool, even without her powers. She is on the cheer squad, and well-liked by both the students and the teachers. Holly is not good with the same types of studies, but she does excel in science. During lunch, she notices that two new students have started at school. Eddie is kind of a geek but Holly's friend Mona thinks he is dreamy. Holly on the other hand finds Tad the other new student to be quite attractive. He appears to be attracted to her sister Ellen.
When the family finds out that Anti Hero has escaped Space Station Prison, they are deeply concerned. Invincible Man was retired because during the capture of Anti Hero, he had lost most of his super powers. He had almost lost his life. When a new hero shows up, Holly wonders if it is possible that Anti Hero has found a new way to finish the job on her dad. Can she figure it out before it is too late? Can she, with her scientific mind be the one to save her family?
In My Super Hero Sister, Toni Lotempio has taken a normal family with all the interactions of any that you meet, and yet added another dimension with the super powers. There is sibling rivalry, and jealousy, and yet there is love and caring as well. Holly is a fun character, full of deviousness and energy. Her friend Molly is a great foil to her personality and brings out the devil in her.
Holly gets into all kinds of scrapes, and wants so much to be a part of everything. When she tries to find Magna Boy's alter ego, she puts herself in danger. Can she find the answers in time to save her father and sister? Will she finally be the hero of the hour?
This would be a fun book for the young adult on your list. It is a cross between a novel and a comic book. It is fun and exciting with characters that have super powers. As usual, they are trying to save the world from evil. It is well done and quick paced. The conflicts and personalities feel like those you find in school and with friends. This is a nice and light read, with a twist of fun.
What is truly a super power? Is it the ability to fly? To lift giant robots into the sky? Or is it more simple -- the ability to believe in yourself?
There is lots of teenage fun in this book, including cute boys, best friends and annoying siblings. Add in a mad scientist or two, an evil minion and a few superheros and you have the perfect blend for a good read.
